Now that we've spent a month being more mindful of what goes in our phone, let's try a month being more mindful about what goes in our...mind. Let's:
Try A Month Without...Junk News!
Junk food, like this Twinkie, has been designed to have the perfect composition of sugars and fats to taste amazing, but it has no nutritional value. In fact, it's downright bad for us.
Junk news is the same - full of stuff that's bad for us, manufactured to maximize consumption.
I'm not talking about fake news. I'm not talking about politics at all. I'm talking about low-quality, low-substance articles, regardless of the politics.
You've seen junk news all over the internet, and even on mainstream news sites, from publishers who know better but are desperate for the ad dollars.
They pump out the Twinkies of news:
- Articles that do nothing but curate tweets.
- Articles that are pure speculation with no facts.
- Headlines that use the words "destroy" or "obliterate" or some other hyperbole.
- Stories based on other stories, with no original reporting included.
If your 6th grade social studies teacher never would have allowed you to discuss it in class, then it's probably junk news.
Ok, so are you ready to try a month without junk news? Sign up now.
