Try a month without…Browser Tabs.

Okay, don't freak out. I said DON'T freak out.

We all know that we have too many browser tabs open, right? Can we agree on that? Sure they're convenient, but on a certain level, we all know that having 5,048 tabs open is a problem.

Opening a jillion tabs certainly makes us feel more productive.

Here's the expectation...

But here’s the Reality:

Exactly. Too many tabs leads to constant re-organizing and overwhelming decision making. It's mental clutter, even mental hoarding. And it can't be great for the computer, right?

Nobody ever said, "I wish I had more tabs open." And we've all felt that dread when the browser crashed and we anxiously waited for it to re-open to see if all our tabs were still there. This is no way to live! Our tabs are owning us!

So what am I suggesting? I'm suggesting we be a bit more intentional. And I am convinced that there is a better way than "just opening up another tab."

But, John! I NEED tabs for work! Ok, then. Relax. I use tabs for work too, I usually have FOUR work-related tabs open all the time, yet I usually have between 100 and 1000 tabs open for personal use across all my devices. Those are the tabs I'm going to get rid of! This is not about masochism. This is about taking control of our environment rather than letting it push us around.

If you need some help, we've got a really great toolkit this month with some really smart resources you can use instead of browser tabs to stay organized.

And if you need more convincing that infinite tabs are bad for us, here are four tabs for you - hereherehere and here.
